The third Market City Lion Dance and Martial Arts Festival was held on Saturday 11th October in Sydney. The event was organised by Chinese Youth League and sponsored by Market City. Participants in the event included Australian Jow Ga Academy, Pei Lei Wushu Association, Jin Wu Koon, Khuan Yee Lion Dance (QLD) and Hong De Lion Dance (VIC). Various lion dance, dragon dance and martial arts performances kept crowds at Market City entertained . Thank you to Ken Wong, president of CYL for inviting us to perform.
Chinese Youth League (CYL) opened the Festival with a dragon dance and a lion dance on poles, followed by a lion dance story of 'Amy's House'. The Jow Ga team then peformed a ground lion dance routine followed by a martial arts display. The CYL junior team then showed off their skills on music with a drummer, two gong players and 6 cymbal players. The Khuan Yee team then showed off their skills on poles before a short lunch break. There was a dragon dance display by CYL in the afternoon, followed by a presentation to participating teams. Jin Wu Koon (JWK) then showed off their skills on the poles with the same pair from the Genting World Lion Dance Championships this year. Then we saw a martial arts display from JWK, followed by a ground routine from Hong De. The Pei Lei Wushu peformed various Wushu and Taiji forms. CYL performed a 6-lion floor routine with female pairs under two of the lions. The finale was a group performance with three lions (CYL, JWK and Khuan Yee) on poles. Well done to all the performers that day, it was certainly an entertaining afternoon. We can't wait til next year....
