On Sunday 6th September, 60 new lions were dotted and danced for the first time on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. The event was to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The event was attended by the Premier of NSW, the Chinese Consul from Sydney, the Chinese Ambassador from Canberra and various other guests. There were 15 participating lion dance teams from Sydney and 3 interstate teams (Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane). The event was submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records.
